Finniss Springs

Restoration of Finniss Springs

Works were done to restored the old kitchen at the Finniss Springs Homestead on Arabana Country. This restoration is key to preserving the homestead as a cultural and community space, making it a place where we can continue to gather, share, and connect.

We’ve also been in talks with solar power companies to install lighting at the homestead. This solar lighting will not only make the space more accessible but also help us reduce our environmental impact by using sustainable energy.

These efforts are part of our ongoing commitment to preserving our heritage and ensuring Arabana Country remains a place for future generations to enjoy.

Finniss Springs 100 year lease

On 25 May 2013, the Arabana Aboriginal Corporation won the leasehold rights to Finniss Springs, a place of deep cultural and spiritual significance for the Arabana people.

As part of our Native Title determination, the Arabana Aboriginal Corporation now holds management rights over Finniss Springs, ensuring it remains in our hands for generations to come. This is a momentous achievement for our community, one that strengthens our connection to Country and ensures the protection and stewardship of this important land.

Development of a management plan of Finniss Springs

Arabana Rangers are working with Traditional Owners, partners such as FOMS and SAAL, and engaging environmental scientists to develop a Springs Management Plan for mound springs on Finniss Springs Station.

This plan will help guide the protection, monitoring, and long-term care of culturally and environmentally significant springs. It brings together Arabana knowledge and ecological science to ensure these vital water places are managed the right way, for generations to come.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which we live, work, and play. We recognise the cultural, spiritual, physical, emotional, intellectual and economic connection to their lands, water, flora, and fauna. We honour and pay respects to all elders; past, present, and emerging, as well as all generations of people now and into the future, for they hold the memories and the future.
