Water is Life: Arabana's Fight for Water Governance at Voices from the Bush Conference in Alice Springs

Our Head Ranger, Zaaheer McKenzie, and Project Officer, Neil Brougham, had the privilege of presenting "Falling Between the Cracks - Culture, History and Water Governance in the Kati-Thanda Lake Eyre Basin" at the Voices from the Bush Conference in Alice Springs yesterday.

Their presentation highlighted the pressing issue of water extraction and its impact on our Country, resonating deeply with the audience. Many were moved by our story.

For Arabana people, water is life, and we are advocating for a seat at the decision-making table with those managing the water that affects our lands. We want to work in partnership to protect the legacy passed down by our old people.

A big thank you to the Australian Water Association for hosting the event and Kiara Johnson for inviting us to present. We also extend our gratitude to the sponsors Power and Water Corporation, SA Water, SUEZ, Veolia, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation for making this important event possible.
