Arabana Rangers Back on Country for Jackboot Ecology Surveys

The Arabana Rangers are back on Jackboot Paddock, with the first field trip now underway as part of the 2026 Jackboot Ecology Surveys.

Working alongside BHP and specialist ecologists, the Rangers are supporting a range of ecological monitoring activities across the Jackboot project area. This includes deploying remote camera traps, mapping rabbit warrens, capturing aerial drone imagery and providing on-ground support to the ecological survey team.

Building on last year's successful baseline surveys, this work contributes to the long-term monitoring of the area's environment and helps improve our understanding of how the landscape and wildlife change over time.

For the Rangers, it's also another opportunity to build practical skills, strengthen environmental monitoring capability and continue caring for Arabana Country while working alongside industry and scientific partners.

The first few days have been productive, with cameras installed, drone imagery collected and many kilometres travelled across Country. As always, spending time on Country brings opportunities to share knowledge, learn together and contribute to work that supports both environmental stewardship and future management.
