The Arabana Aboriginal Corporation (AAC) is seeking a dedicated Heritage and Environment Manager to join our team and lead Arabana Heritage and Environment Services (AHES).
About the Role
As the Heritage and Environment Manager, you will be at the forefront of managing cultural and environmental projects that protect and preserve Arabana Country. You will be responsible for overseeing field teams delivering heritage surveys, environmental monitoring, and cultural mapping, all while ensuring the work aligns with Arabana cultural protocols. You’ll have the opportunity to drive impactful projects, liaise with community members, government, and other stakeholders, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of our land.
This is a full-time, annual contract position based in Port Augusta, with regular travel to Arabana Country. The role offers a salary of $110,000 + super + travel allowances.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead field teams in conducting heritage surveys, environmental monitoring, and cultural mapping.
Embed Arabana cultural protocols across all operations, with guidance from Cultural Advisors.
Build strong relationships with Traditional Owners, government representatives, and other stakeholders.
Ensure safety, compliance, and risk management for remote work.
Manage the implementation of the AHES Business Plan, focusing on sustainability, financial performance, and community empowerment.
What You’ll Bring:
In-depth knowledge of Arabana Country, culture, and community expectations.
Experience in Indigenous land management, heritage surveys, or environmental projects.
Strong leadership skills and experience managing field-based teams.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Qualifications (or equivalent experience) in environmental science, cultural heritage, or Indigenous governance.
Willingness to travel regularly and work on Country.
Essential Requirements:
Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Check and Working with Children Check (WWCC).
National Police Clearance.
Valid Driver’s License (C-Class).
White Card, Senior First Aid, 4WD Training, Snake Handling, and AAR Survey/Monitoring Training (or willingness to obtain).
