On the second day of the Arabana Ngura, after a minor explosion of the Finniss septic system (now resolved!), participants travelled in convoy to Gosse Spring, about 45 minutes drive from Finniss Springs Homestead. Gosse Spring is notable for its pristine condition, being unaffected by cattle and horses, with large open pools of surface water with a sweet taste and strong flow, set among rolling sand dunes on the edge of Kati Thanda. Camp attendees explored the complex of springs with the Arabana Rangers, with the kids playing in the dunes and posing for photos for use in the Arabana song book currently being prepared. Attendees were particularly excited to see the huge quantities of Arabana stone artefacts at the site, revealing long term use of the Gosse spring complex as a camping area by Arabana nharla over millennia.
After visiting Gosse, the convoy travelled right to the edge of Kati Thanda. No water could be seen in the lake this far south - but everyone could feel it coming! Later that night, some community members composed and recorded a song in the Gig Rig about the water making its way down channel country to revitalise Kati Thanda.
During next year's camp, the AAC will select a different spot for the fieldtrip, to continue to get Arabana nharla out on wadlhu!
