Hosting the 2025 SA Arid Lands Indigenous Ranger Gathering on Arabana Country

Arru! We were proud to welcome Indigenous Rangers from across the SA Arid Lands region to Finniss Springs for the third annual SA Arid Lands Indigenous Ranger Gathering. This year’s gathering was the largest yet, with seven ranger teams joining us to share knowledge, skills, and stories while strengthening connections across the region.

Our Arabana Elders led a special tour of Country, including Kati-Thanda and the mound springs, sharing cultural insights and the significance of these important sites. The workshops covered a range of topics vital to caring for Country, including cat trapping, camera monitoring, media and storytelling, and ranger development. It was wonderful to see so many participants learning from each other, laughing together, and leaving with new skills and ideas to take back to their own Country.

A huge thank you to all the Rangers who travelled to attend, to our Arabana Rangers and Elders for guiding the event, SA Arid Lands Landscape Board for co-organising this gathering with us, and BHP for supporting the gathering. We also acknowledge the important partnership with Indigenous Desert Alliance which continues to be key to the success of these gatherings.

It was an honour to host everyone on Arabana Country, and we look forward to continuing these gatherings in the years to come keeping knowledge, skills, and culture strong for the future.

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which we live, work, and play. We recognise the cultural, spiritual, physical, emotional, intellectual and economic connection to their lands, water, flora, and fauna. We honour and pay respects to all elders; past, present, and emerging, as well as all generations of people now and into the future, for they hold the memories and the future.
